Consumer Reports has highlighted the benefits of using home hubs for storing doorbell camera footage locally, as opposed to relying on cloud storage. This recommendation comes in the wake of increased interest in doorbell cameras following the FBI's retrieval of footage in a high-profile case. Local storage, typically using a microSD card within the camera, offers more privacy and control, as it avoids monthly subscription fees and requires law enforcement to request access directly from homeowners rather than manufacturers. Consumer Reports suggests that a separate hub or base station for the storage device is even more secure, as it can be placed away from the camera itself, further enhancing privacy.
