Former Italian Lawmaker Alessandro Di Battista Hospitalized in Havana After Falling Ill in Cuba
Alessandro Di Battista, a former Italian lawmaker and prominent figure in the Five Star Movement, has been hospitalized in Havana, Cuba, after experiencing a serious medical episode. Di Battista, known in the Italian press as the 'Italian Che,' fell ill in Santa Clara, suffering from severe headaches and losing consciousness for several hours. He was subsequently transferred by ambulance to Hermanos Ameijeiras Hospital in Havana, where he is currently admitted. The incident occurred while Di Battista was in Cuba on a work trip, preparing a series of reports for Il Fatto Quotidiano and its audiovisual arm, TvLoft, titled 'La polvere del mondo.' Italian authorities, including Ambassador Simona De Martino and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, are closely monitoring his condition, and the Italian government has a medically equipped plane on standby for potential repatriation, pending doctors' approval.
