AstraZeneca and HUTCHMED Announce Positive Phase III Results for TAGRISSO Plus Savolitinib in Lung Cancer
AstraZeneca and HUTCHMED have reported positive high-level results from the SAFFRON Phase III trial, demonstrating that TAGRISSO (osimertinib) combined with savolitinib significantly improved progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) in patients with epidermal growth factor receptor-mutated (EGFRm) non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). This trial focused on patients whose tumors exhibited high levels of MET overexpression or amplification and had progressed after prior treatment with TAGRISSO. MET-driven resistance is a common mechanism of progression in EGFRm NSCLC patients treated with third-generation EGFR-tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), often leading to poor prognosis and a lack of effective, well-tolerated treatment options. The safety profile of the combination therapy was consistent with the known profiles of each medicine, with no new safety findings observed. These findings reinforce TAGRISSO as a foundational therapy in EGFRm lung cancer and highlight the potential of this novel ...
