European Film Professionals Urge EU to Protect Cinema Funding
Over 4,700 film professionals, including notable figures like Francis Ford Coppola and Juliette Binoche, have signed an open letter urging the European Union to safeguard film funding under the MEDIA program. This initiative has been crucial in supporting European cinema for over 35 years. The letter comes amid discussions to merge cultural funding into a single budget under the AgoraEU plan, which could potentially dilute resources for cinema. The signatories emphasize the importance of maintaining dedicated funding for film to preserve Europe's cultural heritage and support the industry against global competition.
