Amazon Overhauls AI Strategy, Phases Out Flagship Models for New Frontier Effort
Amazon is revamping its artificial intelligence (AI) strategy by winding down many of its in-house AI models, including the Nova AI models, and shifting focus to a new frontier-model effort. This strategic overhaul is led by researcher Pieter Abbeel and aims to prioritize frontier research. The company plans to debut its new flagship model at the 're:Invent' conference later this year. Despite the changes, Amazon will continue to support existing Nova models while investing in next-generation frontier model research. This move follows recent job cuts in Amazon's artificial general intelligence (AGI) group as the company refines its focus on key customer initiatives.
