Conservationists Advocate for More Rewilding Sites to Enhance Wildlife Exposure
Conservationists in the UK are calling for the establishment of more 'truly wild' areas to demonstrate the potential richness of nature in Britain. This initiative aims to counteract the phenomenon of 'shifting baselines,' where each generation perceives a progressively less wildlife-rich environment as normal. Sites like Strawberry Hill in Bedfordshire, which was rewilded nearly 40 years ago, serve as examples of how nature can thrive when left to its own devices. The area, now a nature reserve, is home to a diverse array of wildlife, including nightingales, cuckoos, and various insects, thanks to its size and the absence of pesticides. The success of such sites has prompted calls for more rewilding projects to inspire and provide health benefits to the public.
