Laguna Canyon Foundation Promotes Native Plant Restoration to Protect Local Habitat
The Laguna Canyon Foundation is actively engaging the community in habitat restoration efforts through an open house event at its native plant nurseries in Laguna Beach. The foundation, which is dedicated to conserving the 22,000-acre South Coast Wilderness, showcased its initiatives to produce and distribute native plants for local habitat restoration. Marjorie Rhodes, the restoration project manager, emphasized the importance of connecting people with the land and educating them on growing and caring for native plants. The foundation is shifting towards a seed-based restoration process, encouraging volunteers to collect and map seeds, which allows the land to naturally dictate the growth of native species. This approach is part of a broader effort to maintain the ecological balance and protect endangered plant species in the area.
