BARDA Increases Funding for Basilea's Oral Antibiotic Targeting Drug-Resistant UTIs
Basilea Pharmaceutica has received an additional $5.4 million from the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) to support the development of its investigational oral antibiotic, ceftibuten-ledaborbactam etzadroxil, aimed at treating complicated urinary tract infections (cUTIs) caused by multidrug-resistant bacteria. This funding is part of a larger agreement that could provide up to $172 million to Basilea. The investigational therapy combines an oral cephalosporin antibiotic with a novel beta-lactamase inhibitor, addressing a critical gap in current antimicrobial treatments.
