Liexer De La Cruz, a Cuban man who spent five years building a life in the United States, was expelled back to Cuba following an immigration hearing in Miami. Despite his efforts to gain legal residency through the Cuban Adjustment Act, he was forced to choose between returning to Cuba or risking immediate deportation. Upon his return, De La Cruz found Cuba grappling with severe economic and energy crises, including daily power outages often lasting over 24 hours, critical fuel shortages, and exorbitant food prices. He resumed work as a taxi driver using a solar-powered tricycle, but frequent blackouts hinder his ability to charge it, impacting his income. The lack of basic services like water and reliable communication further compounds the challenges, making daily life a struggle for him and his family.
