University of Alabama School of Law Experiences Lowest Ranking in 13 Years by U.S. News
The University of Alabama School of Law has received its lowest ranking in 13 years from U.S. News and World Report, dropping from No. 31 in 2025 to No. 40 in 2026. This decline is part of a downward trend for the law school, which was ranked as high as No. 21 in 2013. Despite the drop in overall ranking, the school improved in other areas, such as rising from No. 11 to No. 7 in the ranking for law schools with the most graduates in federal clerkships. Federal clerkships are prestigious positions under federal judges, typically taken by law graduates early in their careers. Wendell Allen, a hiring partner at Bradley, a national law firm, stated that rankings are a helpful guideline for recruiting but do not significantly impact their view of the law school. He emphasized the academic strength of Alabama Law and noted that the school is highly regarded across the country, with employers from outside the Deep South recruiting its graduates.
