US Space Force Awards SpaceX Contract for Sensor-to-Shooter Targeting Network
The US Space Force has awarded SpaceX a $2.29 billion contract to develop a sensor-to-shooter targeting network, leveraging technology from SpaceX's Starlink constellation. This network, known as the Space Data Network (SDN) Backbone, will enhance military communications by providing a resilient, high-speed network in low-Earth orbit. The network will utilize SpaceX's Starshield satellites, designed for military applications, to deliver tactical communications and broadband services globally. The initiative aims to connect US military sensors and shooters continuously and securely, marking a significant advancement in military communications infrastructure.
