New York City Skyscraper Concept Wins Visionary Architecture Contest for Ecological Design
A New York City skyscraper concept, designed as a sanctuary for both humans and endangered pollinators, has won first place in an international design contest. The Skyscraper Competition, organized by eVolo, recognized the project titled 'The Living Refuge: A Symbiotic Sanctuary For Humans And The Vanishing Pollinators,' designed by Changsi Wang of the United States. The design envisions a skyscraper in Manhattan that serves as a habitat for humans and endangered pollinators, integrating ecological, scientific, and educational functions. The project addresses the urgent ecological challenge of pollinator endangerment in urban environments, exacerbated by habitat fragmentation and chemical exposure. The skyscraper features a 3D-printed 'ecological facade' that creates microclimates conducive to vegetation and pollinator habitation.
