Congresswoman Lateefah Simon Endorses District 10 Supervisor Candidate Theo Ellington Amidst AI Data Center Debate
Congresswoman Lateefah Simon has endorsed Theo Ellington, a candidate for District 10 Supervisor in San Francisco. This endorsement comes as District 10 candidates are debating the implementation of a moratorium on new Artificial Intelligence (AI) data centers. Ellington, who serves as the Executive Director of the Ruth Williams Bayview Opera House and Policy Director for Brownstein, was the first candidate in the race to advocate for a moratorium on new data centers in District 10. He proposes that any new data centers should be subject to full community input, environmental review, and public disclosure of water and energy usage. Ellington also emphasizes that companies should bear the full cost of necessary power upgrades and that ratepayer and anti-displacement protections must be in place. The current District 10 Supervisor, Shamann Walton, is also planning to introduce a city-wide 45-day moratorium on new and expanding data centers to assess their environmental impact.
