India Tops Global Remittance Inflows Amid Rising Overseas Workforce
India has maintained its position as the world's largest recipient of remittances, with inflows reaching $138 billion in 2024, according to the World Migration Report 2026 by the International Organization for Migration. The report highlights the significant economic contributions of India's global diaspora, estimated at 19 million people. The increase in remittances is attributed to the earnings of Indian workers and professionals in countries like the United States, UAE, UK, Canada, and Australia. The report also notes a rise in high-skilled migration from India, with professionals moving abroad for jobs in technology, healthcare, engineering, and research sectors.
