Frio River Conditions Ideal for Labor Day Floaters After Summer Rains
The Frio River in Concan, Texas, is experiencing ideal conditions for Labor Day weekend floaters, with clear, cool, and well-flowing water. This follows torrential rains in July that caused the river to rise nearly 17 feet between July 14 and July 16. Despite the significant flooding, the river has receded and maintained an above-average flow for over a month, a phenomenon that has surprised locals and first responders. Brett Rimkus, a Frio River first responder and flood advisor, noted that the springs are still pumping out cold water, contributing to the excellent conditions. While the storms caused visible damage to parts of the riverbank, much of the affected areas are now covered by the elevated water levels. The optimal flow speed for the Frio River, between 50 and 100 cubic feet per second, is expected to be consistent throughout the holiday weekend, ensuring a pleasant experience for visitors.
