The South Pacific is emerging as a key destination for cruise tourism, driven by global travel shifts due to Middle East tensions. The World Travel & Tourism Council reports that Asia-Pacific led tourism growth in 2025, with Australians taking cruise holidays in record numbers. Melanesian island nations like the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, and Papua New Guinea are positioning themselves as major cruise destinations, with infrastructure developments such as the Millennium Cruise Passenger Terminal in Honiara. Cruise lines are increasing calls to these regions, offering new itineraries and private island destinations.
