Great Lakes States and Provinces Collaborate on Sustainable Agriculture Initiative
Governors from the Great Lakes region have launched a new collaboration focused on sustainable agriculture and research. This initiative, led by the Great Lakes St. Lawrence Sustainable Agriculture Initiative, aims to enhance the agricultural economy, increase resilience, and promote sustainable natural resource management. It marks the first formal focus on agriculture by the Conference of Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Governors and Premiers since its inception in the early 1980s. The initiative includes a research agenda to address key challenges and needs, with a framework to advance soil health, water quality, and economic vitality. Collaborative pilot projects and an action agenda are also planned to tackle these challenges.
