Wisconsin Media Outlets Sue for Unredacted Records in Lawmaker Case
Two media outlets in Wisconsin, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and Wisconsin Right Now, have filed a lawsuit against the state's Department of Administration. The lawsuit seeks the release of unredacted records related to a disorderly conduct charge against Democratic state lawmaker Sylvia Ortiz-Velez. The charge stemmed from a dispute with party leaders, during which Ortiz-Velez allegedly made threatening comments. The Department of Administration had previously released redacted records, citing privacy concerns for the individuals involved. The media outlets argue that the public interest in transparency outweighs these concerns.
