Colombia's Air Connectivity Boosts Tourism Growth and Economic Resilience
Colombia is experiencing a significant boost in its tourism sector, driven by enhanced air connectivity. In 2024, the country saw a 15% increase in non-resident visitors, reaching nearly 7 million, with air transport revenues hitting $5.2 billion. This growth is attributed to the launch of 26 new routes in 2024 and 22 more planned for 2025, with 29 airlines now offering direct flights to over 10 Colombian destinations. Luis Alejandro Dávila, vice president of tourism at ProColombia, highlights that over 90% of international travelers arrive by air, underscoring the importance of air connectivity in Colombia's tourism strategy. The country's domestic air network also plays a crucial role, making Colombia the third-largest air market in Latin America. Recent partnerships with airlines like Emirates and new routes from Avianca and Aeroméxico further illustrate the rising global interest in Colombia as a travel destination.
