Kentucky Expands African American Heritage Trail with New Historic Sites
Kentucky has announced the expansion of its African American Heritage Trail, adding ten new sites to the existing list of over 50 historic locations. This initiative, first launched in June 2025, aims to highlight the significant contributions of African Americans to both Kentucky and the nation. The expansion follows a public nomination process that began in October 2025, where individuals could propose new sites for inclusion. Governor Andy Beshear emphasized the importance of recognizing Black history as an integral part of both American and Kentucky history, which has often been overlooked. The expansion is part of the state's preparations for the 250th anniversary of the United States, with the goal of enhancing public awareness and appreciation of these historical narratives.
