Phineas Fisher: Hacker's Campaign Against Spyware Makers Disrupts Industry
Phineas Fisher, a notorious hacker, has made significant impacts in the cybersecurity world by targeting spyware companies. Known for their hacktivist approach, Phineas Fisher first gained attention in 2014 with an attack on Gamma Group, exposing sensitive data related to their FinFisher spyware. This was followed by a more substantial breach in 2015 against Italy's Hacking Team, where over 400 GB of data was stolen, leading to political scandals in several countries. The attack severely impacted Hacking Team, eventually leading to its sale for a nominal amount. Phineas Fisher's activities have not been limited to tech companies; they have also targeted political entities and financial institutions, often redistributing stolen funds to support causes like the Rojava region in Syria.
