New EU AI Transparency Rules Extend to Everyday Users, Not Just Big Tech
The European Union has implemented new transparency rules under Article 50 of the AI Act, effective August 2, 2026. These rules require anyone creating, publishing, or deploying AI-generated content in the EU market to meet specific obligations or face significant fines. The rules apply to a wide range of actors, including companies, media outlets, and individuals, both within and outside the EU. The obligations include marking AI-generated content and systems that interact with natural persons, manipulate content, or generate deepfakes. Non-compliance can result in fines up to 15 million euros or 3% of total worldwide turnover.
