Akureyri Airport Experiences Record Surge in International Travelers Amid Tourism Growth
Akureyri Airport in North Iceland has reported a record number of over 107,000 passengers in 2025, marking the highest annual total on record. This represents a significant increase from the 92,000 passengers recorded in 2023. The surge in travelers is largely attributed to the growing international demand and the continued operation of seasonal flights by EasyJet. For the past three years, EasyJet has offered regular services between October and April, which has helped extend the region's tourism season beyond the traditional summer months. This has resulted in a considerable increase in visitor numbers during the winter season. Despite facing challenges such as changes to domestic air services and the collapse of regional carrier NiceAir in May 2023, Akureyri Airport has managed to attract more international travelers.
