Southern California Faces Heat Wave and High Surf from Tropical Storm Elida
Southern California is bracing for a heat wave coupled with high surf conditions due to Tropical Storm Elida. A ridge of high pressure over Utah and Wyoming is causing temperatures to soar, with forecasts predicting highs of 109°F in Paso Robles and 108°F in Lancaster. The National Weather Service warns of elevated fire danger and potential for fast-moving fires. The heat wave is expected to last from Tuesday through next Monday, with minimal overnight cooling. Along the coast, remnants of Tropical Storm Elida are causing hazardous surf and rip currents, particularly at south-facing beaches. Waves of 4 to 8 feet are anticipated, posing risks to beachgoers.
