Millicom Announces $600 Million Investment to Expand Digital Infrastructure in Uruguay
Millicom, a prominent international telecommunications operator, has unveiled a significant investment initiative in Uruguay, committing $600 million to enhance the country's digital infrastructure. This move coincides with the introduction of Millicom's Tigo brand in Uruguay, following the acquisition of Movistar for $440 million last year. The investment plan, set to be executed over the next four years, aims to expand 4G and 5G capacities, particularly in rural and inland areas, to boost connectivity and commercial penetration. Millicom currently serves 1.6 million customers in Uruguay, holding 29% of the local mobile market, and operates two data centers. The initiative is part of Millicom's broader regional strategy, which includes recent acquisitions in Ecuador, Chile, and Colombia.
