USC Student Blinded by Homeland Security Officer at Protest Plans Legal Action
Tucker Collins, a USC student, was blinded in his right eye after being shot with a projectile by a Department of Homeland Security officer during a 'No Kings' rally in Los Angeles on March 28. The incident occurred while Collins was documenting the protest, which took place at the Metropolitan Detention Center. His attorney, V. James DeSimone, announced plans to file a federal claim against the Department of Homeland Security, marking the first step towards a federal civil rights lawsuit. The protest, which drew thousands, reportedly involved demonstrators throwing rocks and bottles at officers, prompting the use of crowd control measures. Collins, however, maintains he was not a threat and was merely taking photos and videos when he was injured.
