AI-Designed Drug Rentosertib Shows Promise in Reducing Biological Age Markers in Early Trials

Insilico Medicine, an artificial intelligence-driven pharmaceutical company, has reported that its experimental drug, rentosertib, demonstrated a reduction in biological age markers during a 12-week trial involving 42 participants. The findings, published in a Nature Biotechnology study, indicate that individuals receiving rentosertib experienced a shift in these markers, unlike those in placebo or untreated groups. Rentosertib was initially developed using AI to target and counteract fibrotic processes in patients suffering from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), a chronic lung condition. The drug had previously shown an ability to increase lung air capacity in IPF patients. For this study, Insilico Medicine utilized six distinct AI-powered 'aging clocks,' which analyze blood biomarkers and other health data to estimate biological age. All six of these clocks registered sufficient changes to suggest that rentosertib might be influencing various aspects of aging biology.
