Iraq Launches Starlink Satellite Internet Services to Bridge Digital Divide
Iraq has officially launched Starlink satellite internet services nationwide, marking a significant development in the country's telecommunications history. This launch follows a licensing agreement signed in Washington on July 17, 2026, between the Iraqi Communications and Media Commission and SpaceX. The agreement aims to provide high-speed internet to remote and rural areas, overcoming Iraq's historical broadband deficits. Starlink, developed by Elon Musk’s SpaceX, operates through a constellation of low Earth orbit satellites, delivering high-speed internet by bypassing ground-based infrastructure constraints. The monthly subscription fee for users inside Iraq is expected to be above $50, which is considered reasonable relative to its performance capability.
