USDA Recalls Over 160,000 Pounds of Meat Due to Falsified Inspection Labels
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced a recall of more than 167,000 pounds of raw pork, beef, and goat products from Star Meat Delivery Inc. of Lucama, North Carolina. The recall was initiated because the products were produced without the required USDA inspection and were shipped with falsified inspection stickers. The meat bore an establishment number, EST. 1363, which the USDA states does not have a federal grant of inspection. The problem was discovered during routine checks by the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS). The recalled products were produced on various dates before September 22 and were distributed nationwide to retail and restaurant locations via Georgia distributor A&D Foods. The USDA has advised consumers to discard or return any affected products, as they are considered misbranded and unsafe to eat.
