Hurricane Fausto to Bring Swells and Potential Rain to Hawaii
Hurricane Fausto, currently a Category 2 storm with maximum sustained winds of 100 mph (160 km/h), is located approximately 1,300 miles (2,092 km) east of Hilo, Hawaii, as of the morning of July 25, 2026. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) forecasts that Fausto will weaken to a tropical storm by July 27 as it approaches the Hawaiian Islands. The storm's center is expected to pass just north of the islands, but uncertainty remains regarding its exact track and intensity. Swells generated by Fausto are anticipated to reach Hawaii as early as Sunday, July 26, increasing surf and creating dangerous rip currents. Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Genevieve, which formed on July 24, is forecast to intensify into a major hurricane with winds exceeding 111 mph (179 km/h) by July 27.
