Portland Police Respond to Hostage Situation, Issue Shelter-in-Place Order
In Portland, Oregon, tactical teams responded to a reported hostage situation in the Hazelwood neighborhood early Friday morning. Police were alerted to a disturbance involving a weapon at an apartment on Northeast 122nd Avenue. An armed suspect was reportedly holding a woman hostage inside the apartment. The Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT) and the Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) were deployed to the scene. By 8 a.m., the woman was safely out of the apartment and with officers. The suspect remains barricaded inside, and police have deployed munitions in an attempt to communicate with him. No injuries have been reported, but residents in the area have been asked to shelter in place as Northeast 122nd Avenue remains closed between Northeast Halsey Street and Northeast Holladay Street.
