Boomers Skip Tulum Amid Rising Costs and Sargassum Challenges
Tulum, once a popular destination for older travelers, is seeing a decline in visits from the boomer demographic. This trend is attributed to rising costs, the shift towards luxury resorts, and the environmental impact of sargassum seaweed. The influx of sargassum has led to decreased hotel occupancy and a drop in tourism, with local officials describing the situation as extremely serious. Despite these challenges, Tulum's cenotes, ruins, and inland attractions remain appealing to some visitors.
