U.S. Representative Joe Neguse Advocates for Colorado Connector Rail Service
U.S. Representative Joe Neguse, a Democrat from Lafayette, has expressed strong support for the Colorado Connector rail service, viewing it as a significant step forward for passenger rail in Colorado and the nation. His comments came after the Front Range Passenger Rail District board voted 14-1 to refer a sales tax measure to voters in 30 municipalities. This measure, if approved, would generate an estimated $295 million annually through a 0.333% sales and use tax, equivalent to approximately 33 cents on a $100 purchase. The funding is intended for the full development of the Colorado Connector system, which plans for 12 permanent stops along the Interstate 25 corridor. While a 'starter service' between Fort Collins and Denver is already slated to launch by 2029 with three daily round trips, the additional tax revenue would enable the full Fort-Collins-to-Pueblo line to begin service by 2032, with potential future expansions to Cheyenne and New Mexico.
