Tesla Full Self-Driving Supervised v14.3.9 Introduces Active Safety Layer for Collision Evasion
Tesla is rolling out Full Self-Driving (FSD) Supervised v14.3.9, which includes a new active safety layer designed to intervene and take control of the vehicle even when a driver is operating it manually. This feature, essentially an Automatic Collision Evasion system, activates when an imminent collision is detected and Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) alone may not suffice. Unlike traditional AEB, this system can utilize steering, braking, and acceleration in conjunction to find a safer path, potentially changing lanes or moving to a shoulder to avoid impact. It can also engage if the system detects significant driver distraction or an accidental FSD disengagement. After an emergency maneuver, the vehicle is designed to alert the driver and request a return to manual control. This intervention is intended as a last-resort safety measure, not a replacement for attentive driving, and requires FSD to be enabled with an active purchase or subscription.
