Gordie Howe International Bridge Opens Free Walking and Bike Path Between Detroit and Canada
The Gordie Howe International Bridge has opened a new multi-use path for pedestrians and cyclists, allowing individuals to walk or bike across the international span between Detroit and Canada for the first time. The path, which opened on a Wednesday morning, quickly attracted hundreds of people eager to be among the first to make the crossing. The bridge's path is 1.5 miles long with a 5% grade, accommodating two-way pedestrian and cyclist traffic. The total travel distance between the two border inspection booths is 1.8 miles one way, with an estimated crossing time of 20 minutes by bike or 45 minutes on foot, excluding border processing time. The path is free to use, but travelers must carry the same documents required for vehicle crossings.
