Boston Marathon 2026: Record-Breaking Wins Amid Cold Start
The 2026 Boston Marathon witnessed record-breaking performances despite starting in chilly conditions. John Korir of Kenya set a new course record, finishing in 2 hours, 1 minute, and 52 seconds, aided by favorable tailwinds. This time was 70 seconds faster than the previous record set by Geoffrey Mutai in 2011. Sharon Lokedi also defended her title in the women's race, completing the course in 2:18:51. The event began with temperatures in the 30s, the coldest since 2018, but clear skies and a tailwind contributed to the fast times. The marathon also featured changes to reduce crowding and a new statue honoring marathon pioneer Bobbi Gibb.
