Water.org Expands Global Impact with Innovative Financial Solutions for Safe Water Access
Water.org, an international nonprofit organization based in Kansas City, MO, is making significant strides in addressing the global water crisis. Founded by Gary White and Matt Damon, the organization has been pioneering market-driven financial solutions for over 30 years to provide universal access to safe water and sanitation. Water.org's approach includes initiatives like WaterCredit, which helps families finance home water and sanitation solutions through accessible loans, and WaterEquity, which brings in private capital to sustain lending. The organization operates in 15 countries across four continents and has empowered over 92 million people with safe water or sanitation. Their model is highly efficient, with every dollar donated unlocking $21 for water and sanitation solutions. Water.org has mobilized $8.2 billion USD in capital and facilitated 20.4 million loans, with 90% of borrowers being women and a 98% repayment rate.
