European Investment Bank Funds Renovation of War-Damaged School in Ukraine
The European Investment Bank (EIB) has supported the reopening of Lukashi Lyceum, a school in Kyiv Oblast, Ukraine, which was damaged by a Russian attack in March 2022. The renovation project, costing €1.07 million, was primarily financed by the EIB with €690,000 under its €340 million Ukraine Recovery Programme, with the remaining €385,000 covered by the local budget. The reconstruction transformed the damaged building into a modern, accessible, and energy-efficient educational facility. Improvements include structural repairs, a new roof, insulated facades, upgraded utilities, enhanced accessibility for people with disabilities, and new fire and security systems, as well as a protective shelter. The school will now accommodate 119 students, including those with special educational needs and internally displaced children, along with 25 staff members. This initiative is part of broader EU-EIB recovery efforts in collaboration with Ukrainian ministries and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
