Congressman Jay Obernolte Proposes Bills to Revoke California EPA Waivers
Congressman Jay Obernolte, alongside Representatives Gary Palmer and August Pfluger, has introduced three Congressional Review Act resolutions aimed at revoking Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) waivers that allow California to enforce emissions standards stricter than federal law. These resolutions target California's regulations on small off-road engines, vehicle greenhouse-gas standards for model years 2009 and later, and the state's Advanced Clean Cars I waiver. The lawmakers argue that these measures are necessary to limit California's influence on national policy, protect consumer choice, reduce costs for families and businesses, and preserve congressional oversight. The introduction of these resolutions is part of a broader legislative effort to address what the lawmakers perceive as overreach by California in setting environmental standards that could impact markets beyond the state.
