Indiana Woman Denies Charges in Gun Purchase Linked to Chicago Shooting
Olivia Burgos, a 23-year-old woman from La Porte, Indiana, has pleaded not guilty to charges of making a false statement in the acquisition of a firearm. The gun in question was used in a shooting at Swedish Hospital in Chicago, which resulted in the death of Officer John Bartholomew and critical injury to Officer Nelson Crespo. Burgos allegedly purchased the gun for her then-boyfriend, a felon, who provided the funds for the purchase. The case is being handled in the U.S. District Court in Hammond, with an initial trial date set for July.
