Cybersecurity and AI Guidelines Emerge as Top Concerns for School Districts
According to the U.S. State of EdTech 2026 report by The Consortium for School Networking, cybersecurity remains the primary concern for school districts' technology priorities. The report, which surveyed over 600 K-12 technology leaders across 44 states, also highlights a significant increase in attention towards generative artificial intelligence. Nearly 80% of respondents have established AI guidelines, a notable increase from previous years. However, districts face challenges such as budget constraints, lack of resources, and insufficient staffing for cybersecurity and instructional technology support. The report indicates that districts are becoming more structured in vetting technology products, with a focus on security, interoperability, and instructional value.
