Community Members Benefit from Discarded School Supplies in Chicago
In Chicago, community members have found a valuable resource in discarded school supplies left outside Carlos Fuentes Elementary School. The supplies, which included books, art materials, and classroom decor, were left in a dumpster as the school transitions from the Acero Network to the Chicago Public Schools district. Parish Banks, a daycare owner, discovered the supplies through a social media post and was able to collect items needed for her new daycare. The incident sparked discussions about the waste of educational materials and the financial pressures on families and educators to purchase new supplies each year.
