Tanzania Seeks $2 Billion in Russian Investments Amid Strained Western Relations
Tanzania is seeking to diversify its international partnerships following strained relations with Western countries after a disputed election in October 2025. President Samia Suluhu Hassan visited Russia, marking the first state visit by a Tanzanian leader to the country in 57 years. During the visit, Tanzanian officials engaged in discussions with Russian companies at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, focusing on sectors such as healthcare, mining, energy, agriculture, and technology. The Tanzanian government estimates that these discussions could lead to $2 billion in investments over the next three to five years. This move is seen as an effort to position Russia as a key development partner for Tanzania.
