Google Wallet Expands Digital ID Support Across U.S. States and Services
Google Wallet is actively expanding its support for digital IDs, allowing users in several U.S. states to add their driver's licenses or state IDs to the app. Currently, Arizona, Georgia, Maryland, and New Mexico DMVs are integrating these digital IDs to streamline customer experiences. The process for adding an ID involves taking pictures of the physical card and a short video of the user for verification, with the photo submitted to the ID issuer. Once approved, the digital ID appears in Google Wallet alongside payment methods. While digital IDs are accepted at TSA checkpoints in some U.S. airports via NFC terminals or QR codes, users are still required to carry their physical ID cards.
