Spain Declares First Wildfire Emergency as Fires Rage Across Europe
Spain has declared a national emergency due to uncontrolled wildfires, marking the first time the country has activated its highest level of emergency specifically for a wildfire. The fires have forced the evacuation of over 10,000 residents near Madrid and in the Ávila province. The emergency allows Spain's interior ministry to coordinate firefighting efforts nationwide. Meanwhile, France has requested EU assistance to combat a major blaze on its Atlantic coast, leading to the evacuation of 40,000 people from the Cap Ferret peninsula.
