Lineage Says Nearly Half of Boyle Heights Warehouse Food Waste Has Been Removed
Lineage, the operator of a cold food storage warehouse in Boyle Heights, has announced significant progress in cleaning up the site following a fire last month. The company has cleared nearly half of the food waste and sealed it in deodorized containers for offsite transport. This update follows citations from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health for rodent and pest control violations, and orders from the South Coast Air Quality Management District to address foul odors after receiving over 900 complaints. Lineage plans to begin scraping and power washing the concrete slab, with demolition and cleanup expected to be largely complete soon. The company is also removing the wall separating burned and unburned sections to expedite the cleanup, which may temporarily increase odors. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has set a 45-day timeline for the removal of biohazardous waste. Lineage has donated $2.5 million in aid to affected residents, including air purifiers and housing vouchers.
