DeSantis' Tax Plan May Lead to Mosquito Control Challenges in Florida
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has proposed a significant expansion of the state's homestead exemption, which could lead to one of the largest property tax cuts in the state's history. The plan, titled 'Save Our Homes From Excessive Property Taxes,' aims to increase the exemption from $50,000 to $150,000 in 2027 and $250,000 in 2028. While the proposal promises tax relief for homeowners, it also poses a potential $8 billion shortfall for local governments. This shortfall could impact essential services, including mosquito control, which is crucial in Florida due to the prevalence of mosquito-borne illnesses.
