IAEA Launches ATLAS Initiative to Address Floating Nuclear Reactor Challenges
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is set to launch the Atomic Technologies Licensed for Applications at Sea (ATLAS) initiative in Washington, DC, on August 26 and 27. This initiative aims to address the legal, regulatory, safety, security, and liability issues associated with deploying nuclear reactors on floating platforms and civilian ships. The U.S. is hosting the event, which will include an 'Industry Day' to showcase technology from American nuclear and maritime companies. The initiative is part of a broader effort by the U.S. Department of Energy to enhance energy innovation and security.
