Silicon Valley Engages with Catholic Church to Address AI Ethics Concerns
Silicon Valley is increasingly turning to the Catholic Church for guidance on ethical issues surrounding artificial intelligence (AI). This collaboration is part of the Minerva Dialogues, a series of annual conferences in Rome that bring together technologists and Catholic leaders to discuss AI ethics. The Church, seeking to regain moral authority, offers its perspective on human dignity and ethical considerations, which contrasts with the often secular and utilitarian approach of Silicon Valley. The dialogues have influenced some AI developers, such as Anthropic, which has incorporated Catholic ethical principles into its AI models. This partnership aims to address public concerns about AI's impact on society, including job displacement and the erosion of human relationships.
