Asia-Pacific Region Leads Global Tourism Readiness Improvement, Japan Ranks First
The Asia-Pacific region has demonstrated the most significant improvement in tourism readiness globally, with its average Travel & Tourism Development Index (TTDI) score increasing by 3.6% between 2024 and 2026. Japan has achieved the top position worldwide as the most tourism-ready economy. Australia secured the fourth spot, and China ranked eighth. This regional advancement is primarily attributed to robust infrastructure, enhanced connectivity, diverse cultural attractions, and supportive enabling environments. However, the World Economic Forum (WEF) emphasizes that true tourism readiness extends beyond merely attracting visitors, pointing out existing deficiencies in tourism services, infrastructure, workforce capabilities, business conditions, and environmental sustainability within the region. The WEF's assessment highlights a comprehensive view of what constitutes a truly prepared and sustainable tourism sector.
